SINGLE REVIEW: Mi Tambor by Danny Montalvo

Danny Montalvo

Danny Montalvo is a Latin Salsa singer who was born to Puerto Rican parents in Brooklyn, New York but was sent to Puerto Rico an early age and was exposed to salsa a lot, which developed his love for the genre. Danny returned to New York and won 3rd place on a talent contest before working with some excellent musicians and gaining radio airplay.

This track, Mi Tambor, was written by Danny himself and arranged/produced by Grammy award winning Pablo Chino Nunez. It is a lively paced salsa track that features a superb vocal performance from Danny. The track is grooved along by bongos and congas, with a jazzy, melodic xylophone part that acts as nice contrapuntal part to the vocal.

There is also some fine piano playing and Danny is aided by backing singers who intersperse his lead vocals at certain points. I can’t comment on the lyrics as they are in another language, but the title My Heart suggests a romantic theme.

Overall, this is an excellent piece of salsa that showcases Danny’s first class abilities as both a singer and songwriter. The music has been superbly produced by Pablo Chino Nunez as you’d expect from a Grammy winning producer, and it should find great popularity with salsa fans around the world.
