SINGLE REVIEW: Love Is Just A Myth by Ken Owens

KenOwensbyKyleDaShawn002_web1 Ken Owens (KO_ILL_FLOW) is a hip-hop/rap artist hailing from Munds Park near Flagstaff, AZ, where he has developed a strong following for his music. This track, Love Is Just A Myth, was produced by N8 Jetson, who has worked with artists such as Compton Menace, Mistah Fab and Overdose. Ken wrote this track to express his feelings about his difficult experiences with relationships and to reach people who have been through something similar.

It starts with a short intro of a synth and piano melody before Ken enters with the main hook of the track over a laid-back hip-hop beat: “Love is just myth that I ‘ve been living with my whole life, I can’t fall in love because I know that things won’t go right...”. The lyrical emotional honesty immediately grabs the listener, as well as being a catchy chorus with a mesmeric rhythm.

The first verse depicts Ken meeting someone in a club but the attraction is only physical rather than emotional, the second verse explaining how he has to be upfront with any girl that likes him that he is incapable of committing. His rapping style is powerful and assured, with a smooth, flowing rhythm and ease with rhyme, and by being so honest about his romantic problems, the track hits home harder emotionally than most hip-hop.

Overall, this is an impressive track, superbly performed by Ken Owens and backed up by great production from N8 Jetson. It is all the more resonant when you can relate to the lyrics, as many will be able to, but it still works as simply a great, catchy hip-hop track. It should help establish Ken Owens as a force to be reckoned with on the hip-hop scene, and I look forward to hearing more.
